Bible Studies
This Ministry Team is responsible
for recommending time, content, and leaders for Bible Studies within the
BSU programming. This includes lunch programing, 10:00 programming, reading
the Bible through in a year activities, and special Bible study retreats
or classes, etc. This Ministry Team is responsible for establishing, recommending
materials, and carrying out discipleship development within the BSU. This
includes such things as Prayer Life classes, Experiencing God etc. This
Ministry Team would keep the students abreast of discipleship training
opportunities in the Greater Atlanta Area. Many of these are sponsored
by local churches and local associations. The team helps in the planning
and promotion of Koinonia, a weekly time of Bible study and fellowship
held at night. The team enlists a Bible study leader or leaders for Koinonia
Building and Grounds
This Ministry Team is responsible
for maintenance of BSU Center inside and outside. Ministry Team members
oversee changing of light bulbs, cleanliness of Center, and neatness of
grounds outside of Center.
Community Service
This Ministry Team's periodic
tasks usually involve two or three people who look for and recommend to
the BSU specific one time projects to aid school or community. The primary
job is to act as the liaison between the point of need and students who
can respond to that need on a one time basis.
This group also responds to requests for help from churches. They make
up teams to provide for baby sitting help and various kinds of service
projects in which churches desire students to participate. Work on this
Ministry Team is very erratic since it requires a response to the requests
from churches rather than something that the Ministry Team initiates primarily
itself.
This Ministry Team primarily works fall quarter with a Christmas party
for the Clark Howell Techwood children. Its primary work is fall quarter
with the collection of toys and various gifts to be provided to the children
in poverty situations at Clark/Howell Techwood. Its work culminates in
a Christmas party after exams are over in fall quarter. There is not any
work on this project for practical purposes during winter, spring, or summer
quarters.
Computer Maximization
This ministry team initially
is responsible for the development and maintenance of the BSU web. site.
It is envisioned as eventually taking responsibility for developing new
programming and maintenance of all BSU computer equipment and peripherals.
It will recommend expansions and stewardship of hardware and software.
The Courier
The Courier Ministry Team
is responsible for the total production of the weekly BSU newspaper, the
Courier. This group needs typists, people who are able to handle layout,
those who will serve as reporters as well as a managing editor, and those
who will help in actually producing the paper on the copier, folding then
preparing for mailing.
Evagelism
This Ministry Team is responsible
for encouraging the development of various approaches of winning the lost
to Christ. They are responsible for the development of training opportunities
for our students as well as the encouragement of students to respond to
the needs for evangelization of their fellow students. This Ministry Team
would also recommend to the BSU various approaches and materials to be
used during the year in support of evangelistic efforts. Its focus is the
campus--the students, faculty, and staff of GSU. Evangelism outside the
campus is more the responsibility of the impact teams.
Follow-up
BSU members are grouped as
follows...Single Males, Single Females, Married and International, Advanced
Placement students (students who are Block classes internships, etc.).
The Ministry Team members of each group contact group members in the following
way...
This Ministry Team calls ones who visit the BSU to welcome them and
to note their interests. The Ministry Team members also call BSU members
who have not been in the BSU Center in recent days. The Ministry Team can
recommend BSUers to serve on committees based on interest and conversations
had with BSUers. This Ministry Team can do special projects to make BSUers
feel affirmed, such as sending birthday cards, congratulation cards, etc.
This Ministry Team notifies staff members if a BSUer has experienced a
crisis, such as a death of loved one, loss of job etc. This team can also
plan times of get togethers for group members.
General Enlistment
This Ministry Team is responsible
for presenting and implementing ideas for enlisting students in the BSU.
Impact
This Ministry Team is responsible
for establishing and implementing revival and/or ministry teams that would
be available to churches and other groups in the general area. It is made
of people who want to participate through music, drama, and speaking. This
includes the development of an ensemble, possible quartets, identification
of instrumentalists who might be able to bring special music at various
churches, drama presentations and skits.
The Ministry Team itself is primarily a recruitment and coordination
Ministry Team. The intention is to not only provide service to the church
but opportunities for growth for those students who feel particularly called
into some type of full or part time Christian ministry.
International
The International Programs
ministry team plans programs and activities for International students
at Georgia State. Such programs and activities can be dinners, picnics,
hiking, sports activities, focus weeks where countries are spotlighted,
selection of country's flags to fly over the BSU Center, etc. This team
encourages Internationals to participate in BSU events and offers friendship
to them.
Living Your Faith
This ministry team addresses
ethical and evangelical issues that challenge our faith. Such ethical issues
as abortion, sexuality, human rights, etc. may be addressed. The team encourages
students to share their Christian faith with others through lifestyle evangelism
and/or direct evangelism. Membership on this Ministry Team would normally
not take more than one half hour per week except in the time of specific
projects that the Ministry Team itself plans. This Ministry Team would
also recommend to the BSU various approaches and materials to be used during
the year in support of evangelistic efforts. Its focus is the campus, thus
the students, faculty, and staff of GSU. Evangelism outside the campus
is the responsibility more of the Impact teams.
Lunch
This Ministry Team is responsible
for all planning of lunch programs for the BSU. All requests for speakers
and other programming at lunch programs should go through this Ministry
Team. This Ministry Team works best when it uses a large block of time
prior to the beginning of a quarter to plan out the programming for most
of the quarter in a single session or two. Its members then make the appropriate
contacts and oversee the operation of the programs part of the luncheon
seminars.
Missions Educaction
This Ministry Team is responsible
for missions displays, the recruitment of students to serve as BSU Summer
Missionaries and for students to serve in various other missions positions.
This is, as the name implies, an education Ministry Team not a fund raising
Ministry Team. The objective of the members should be to call out those
that God would use in various special missions approaches and to encourage
every student to consider the possibility of a call to full time mission
work. Work on this Ministry Team would normally not take more than 30 minutes
per week. The Home Mission Board and Foreign Mission Board have curriculum
which can be used as a way of educating students about missions in BSU.
Both agencies have video updates distributed each month.
Prayer
This Ministry Team provides
for prayer support and programming within the BSU. A prime task is the
Monday morning prayer meeting at 10:00, but this Ministry Team's work is
not limited to this. This Ministry Team should find creative ways of encouraging
prayer partners, a prayer chain and other forms of prayer support for BSU,
church, and national needs.
The prayer chain can also be in the form of a phone chain system which
contacts all members of the BSU in a relatively short time with any kind
of emergency prayer concerns. The initial set up of the phone chain is
the more difficult part. The Ministry Team probably should have about 5
people on it who would be the primary catalysts in the chain and from there
on it would expand.
Publicity
This Ministry Team has responsibility
for production of all publicity for the BSU. This includes posters to be
on campus and in the BSU, flyers, materials for closed circuit TV, etc.
Persons working with this Ministry Team should be willing to develop some
skills in connection with computer work and in composition and layout.
This Ministry Team is also responsible for the production of pamphlets
and leaflets about various events and programs of BSU. These pamphlets
would be designed for use on campus and in churches.
This Ministry Team is responsible for printing the Courier, Reflections,
brochures, posters and any other publicity materials.
Recreation
This Ministry Team is responsible
for the involvement of the BSU in all Intramural Activities for males and
females and for the involvement of the BSU in state-wide recreational or
athletic activities. This Ministry Team frequently will work along with
the summer missions Ministry Team in planning some of the fund raisers
that will involve recreational activities. Other than the state wide meeting
this Ministry Team is responsible primarily for ongoing activities such
as pool and ping pong. This Ministry Team would set up the annual tournaments
related to any recreational activities.
This Ministry Team is also responsible for providing activities related
to commercial outlets in the Greater Atlanta area. The intention is to
provide for group activities by BSU members at such things as attendance
at Hawks games, going bowling together, and other such group activities
that do not necessarily occur at the BSU but provide for integration of
new members into social activities and life of the BSU.
Scrapbook
This Ministry Team is responsible
for producing a scrapbook for the BSU. This book should include pictures
of BSUers and BSU events that happened during the school year. This particular
group needs people who are skilled in graphic arts and photography.
Socials
This Ministry Team is responsible
for planning all formal social activities within and for the BSU at GSU.
This includes, but is not limited to, parties, banquets, etc. Each of these
activities is seen as a one time event though they should be coordinated
across the whole quarter.
Special Events
This Ministry Team plans and
promotes special BSU events, such as BSU Fall Convention, BSU Spring Conference,
and Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Weekend event.
Summer Missions
This Ministry Team has the
responsibility for leading the BSU in raising the funds necessary to support
our goal for BSU Summer Missions. The Ministry Team is expected to start
its work in fall quarter and continue through all four quarters. A detailed
manual for Projects is provided. This Ministry Team sets a goal for the
year and plans events to be done each quarter to raise money. This does
not preclude later adding other additives. The amount of time required
varies radically with the projects that are undertaken.
Worship
This devotional/worship experience
is primarily led by students of the BSU. This Ministry Team plans for and
executes the twice a month programs; In the past the programs have been
held at 10:05-10:35 A.M. on Tuesday of one week and Wednesday of the next
week. The members of the Ministry Team help in getting BSUers to bring
music, brief testimonies, and a short devotional talk. Other options are
open, given the creativity of the Ministry Team.

improvement would be greatly appreciated.
