GATA 50/50 Program & HB1055

Many times, members of an organization ask, "What have you done for me in my current situation to make my life better?"  Honestly, that is a fair question for any member to ask.   In addition to the year-round benefits of an informative website, active listserve, and annual CEU opportunities, our most recent immediate benefit was the formation and successful passage of HB1055 .  In summary, this bill was signed by the Governor, takes effect July 1, and clarifies for employers, insurance companies, and even our own practitioners exactly what athletic trainers do on a daily basis.  Many athletic trainers--in settings from pro sports, to rehab clinics, to high schools, to colleges--all took part in this work to pass HB1055.

To maintain this current level of success in future legislative sessions, and to better protect the practice of athletic training in Georgia, I would like to introduce the "50/50 Program":

  • We are looking for 50 people willing to donate $50 for the GATA to strengthen its legislative influence and to invest in the protection of our practice act.
  • Individuals who donate at least $50 will be placed in a drawing for a complimentary registration at a 2009 annual meeting--either GATA, SEATA, or NATA.  One entry will be given for every $50 donated prior to November 1, 2008.
  • Donors who give $100 will be designated as Century Club members.
  • All donors will be listed on the GATA website, unless they wish to remain anonymous.
  • Donations can be sent to the Region Reps or mailed directly to our Treasurer, Jeff Hopp (Marietta High School, 1171 Whitlock Ave., Marietta, GA,  30064) .  If you are unsure of your GATA Region, consult the GATA Leadership Directory
  • The 50/50 Program will run until November 1.  During this 5-month program, donors may give in installments to reach the $50 threshold necessary to qualify for the drawing.
  • Donations can also be made online.

If you are unable to give monetarily in the 50/50 program, then get involved on the local level by assisting one of  HB1055's supporters and let them know you appreciate their help and support of athletic training legislation.  Posting a few yard signs around town can be very helpful thing to a legislator seeking re-election.
